Amidst the rollout of new Apple Intelligence functionalities with iOS 18, Apple is also developing features for an upcoming iOS 19. Among these is an enhanced version of Siri that utilizes more sophisticated large language models (LLMs). This information was shared in a recent report by Bloomberg.
Introducing ‘New Siri’ with iOS 19
According to Mark Gurman, this updated assistant is referred to as “LLM Siri” within Apple. It is currently undergoing testing in a separate application but will eventually replace the existing Siri interface upon its release.
The report indicates that while Apple intends to unveil LLM Siri alongside iOS 19 and macOS 16 next year, the new system is not expected to debut until spring 2026.
The improved Siri will utilize new Apple AI models to engage more naturally, performing tasks in a manner similar to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. It will also leverage App Intents for more accurate control of third-party applications and incorporate features from Apple Intelligence to facilitate text writing and summarization.
With the release of iOS 18.1, Apple introduced a refreshed Siri design, enhancing knowledge of Apple products and improving the handling of multiple commands, along with a new Type to Siri feature and other minor updates. iOS 18.2 will integrate ChatGPT to further enhance Siri. Currently in beta testing, iOS 18.2 is set to launch for all users in December.
Looking ahead to iOS 18.3 and subsequent updates next year, Siri will gain the capability to execute app actions and comprehend your personal context for better responses to queries.
Apple aims to encapsulate the functionalities of ChatGPT within its ecosystem through the forthcoming LLM Siri, promoting the privacy advantages of its platform compared to competitors.
Anticipated announcements for iOS 19 and macOS 16 are expected at WWDC 2025 in June.
