Butterfly Brings Bluesky to Your Apple Watch with a Stunning New App

Looking for the newest social network that’s trending to be accessible on your Apple Watch? Indie developers consistently come through. The latest offering is a fresh client for Bluesky named Butterfly — and thankfully, it has no ties to the MacBook butterfly keyboards.

Reuben Catchpole, who previously developed the Instagram client for watchOS known as Lens, has shifted focus to Bluesky with the recent debut of Butterfly for Apple Watch. Here’s what the app entails:

Butterfly for Bluesky brings the Bluesky experience to your wrist. Browse through your feeds, interact with posts, send and receive messages, check notifications, and create your own posts—all from your Apple Watch.

Here’s what the app looks like:

Butterfly for Bluesky functions as anticipated. It is designed solely for the Apple Watch, eliminating the need for an iPhone counterpart. Install it directly on your watch, log in using your watch’s keyboard, password keychain, or your iPhone keyboard. After logging in, the app immediately displays your Discover or Following timeline along with controls for notifications, messaging, creating new posts, and accessing search, profiles, and accounts.

Butterfly is free to download, allowing you to browse timelines; an optional in-app purchase enables messaging, posting, and additional features. This app is an excellent solution from a developer experienced in adapting social networks for small screens on our wrists. If you’re a Bluesky fan, check it out today!
