Candace Cameron Bure isn’t backing down from her controversial remarks about her marriage. The actress and former Full House star have been married to Valeri Bure for more than 20 years, but on The View last month she revealed that the pair’s relationship is not only a partnership but also one where she gives him “permission” to lead.

Candace Cameron Bure has clarified her controversial comments about the importance of a wife submitting to her husband, saying that she and her husband are equal partners in their marriage. The former Full House actress is married to professional hockey player Valeri Bure and they have three children together.

Candace Cameron Bure Defends Herself

In a recent Instagram Live video, Candace said that her views on submission are rooted in Christianity and she believes it’s important for men and women to work together as partners in their relationship, even though God is at the top of their hierarchy.

“I think what people have taken away from this is there’s something wrong with me because I’m not an equal partner,” Candace said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight Wednesday night (Nov. 20). “My husband works harder than I do.”

In a statement to Page Six, Cameron Bure defended her remarks.

“In an interview from 2016, I was asked about the definition of marriage and responded with the definition,” she said. “I believe in traditional one man/one woman marriage. I have no idea why this is even newsworthy since it’s been my personal belief for many years.”

The star also claimed that she has not changed her mind about her views on marriage since then and that she was simply repeating what was stated in the Bible.

Candace Cameron Bure has been married to former Russian NHL player Valeri Bure since 1996. The two wed when she was 20 in a ceremony officiated by her brother Kirk Cameron.

“I knew my parents were going to be there and I’ve heard so many times that it’s the most important day of your life, but at 19 years old, you’re young and you don’t know what that means,” she told People magazine of her wedding day. “But I did feel like this is the man God has for me—it just felt right.”
