Tom Emmer, a renowned congressman said that CBDC is a potential weapon for the government to spy upon the citizens of the country. The representative of the United States said to believe that the programmable digi currency of the central bank launch can take the financial privacy away from the US citizens.
Talking at the Cato Institute on 9th March, the congressman said that the CBDC can be easily used to spy on the US citizens about their financial information. The congressman said that the anti-surveillance law of CBDC is to prevent the movement forward of the project for digital dollars even though there has been a considerable development in how it can be used.
Tom Emmer added that with the recent actions taken by the administration of Jo Biden makes it evident that the federal government are eager to make a digi dollar to trade the taxpayer’s right to their financial privacy for the CBDC style of surveillance.
