Today, OpenAI has introduced two fresh features for ChatGPT as part of its festive ’12 days of OpenAI’ initiative. A standout addition is the capability for ChatGPT to incorporate video input and screen sharing during voice interactions. Additionally, the company is launching a whimsical Santa mode just in time for the holiday season.
Check out the video from today’s live presentation:
ChatGPT Santa
To kick things off, let’s discuss Santa. OpenAI is adding a new ChatGPT voice option inspired by Santa, transforming the typical ChatGPT voice orb into a charming snow globe, with a snowflake icon replacing the voice button.
The Santa feature is being rolled out globally from today and will remain as a preset voice until early January, according to the company. Conversations with ChatGPT Santa will be temporary, preserving chat history and memory in the process.
Video in Advanced Voice Mode
Next up is a new feature that will extend well beyond the holiday season. Video input and screen sharing functionalities are being added to Advanced Voice Mode on ChatGPT. Here’s how you can use it:
- Open ChatGPT on your iPhone or Android device
- Select the voice icon near the chat bar
- Tap the new video icon located at the bottom left to enable video input
- Alternatively, tap the three-dot menu and choose ‘Share Screen’ for screen sharing
OpenAI mentions that this feature will be available in the coming days for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro users in “most countries” as well as all Team users. “We plan to extend access to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein shortly,” they add, mentioning that Enterprise and Edu users will get access in January.
Once activated, the video and screen sharing options will allow users to interact with ChatGPT in Advanced Voice Mode without the need to describe their environment or screen.
