ChatGPT App Enhances Apple Shortcuts with SearchGPT
The latest version of the ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad includes a new integration with Apple Shortcuts, allowing users to establish shortcuts for launching SearchGPT. This functionality enables users to start a new ChatGPT conversation with SearchGPT capabilities instantly. Additionally, these shortcuts can be added to the Home Screen or activated using Siri.
While ChatGPT has been used by some as a makeshift search engine, OpenAI has implemented specific updates that offer features typically expected from conventional search engines like Google and Bing. Here’s how OpenAI describes these enhancements:
ChatGPT can now conduct web searches far more effectively than before. Users can receive swift, relevant answers accompanied by links to web sources—information that would have previously necessitated a visit to a search engine. This combines the advantages of a natural language interface with timely updates on sports scores, news, stock information, and more.
The decision to search the web will be based on your queries, though you also have the option to initiate a search manually using the web search icon.
OpenAI has collaborated with various news and data sources to provide real-time information, presented in newly designed formats tailored for specific content categories.
With the rollout of iOS 18.2, scheduled for December, Apple will incorporate ChatGPT functionality directly into Siri. This update allows users to engage with the OpenAI chatbot straight from the Siri interface, which also applies to Writing Tools. Users of the paid ChatGPT service can access additional features by signing into their account through the iOS Settings app.
The new shortcut feature is available with the latest version of the ChatGPT app, which can be downloaded from the App Store. However, it is important to note that access to SearchGPT is currently limited to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers.
