In recent days, OpenAI has unveiled numerous new features and improvements for ChatGPT, and there’s more on the horizon. A noteworthy addition is the capability to call ChatGPT over your phone line without needing cellular data.
ChatGPT Now Comes with Its Own Phone Number
OpenAI made this announcement during a live stream on YouTube, showcasing the technology in real-time. Now, residents in the US can dial 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) to converse with ChatGPT and receive the same sophisticated answers available on the web. The phone-based ChatGPT utilizes Advanced Voice Mode technology to facilitate a smooth conversation.
This feature aims to provide individuals with a way to interact with the chatbot when they find themselves in areas lacking internet access. During the demonstration, OpenAI highlighted scenarios like road trips, where travelers can inquire about sights they see without needing to share photos or videos.
For users outside the US, OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT is now also accessible via WhatsApp, allowing users to engage with the chatbot through text on Meta’s messaging platform. To use this feature, initiate a chat with the same phone number, 1-800-242-8478. OpenAI is also developing a way for users to log into their ChatGPT accounts using the WhatsApp bot.
Earlier this week, OpenAI rolled out ChatGPT Search for free, enabling users to ask questions and get responses backed by real-time web data. Furthermore, video support has been added to ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, facilitating natural conversations via video chat.
Additionally, following the release of iOS 18.2 last week, iPhone and iPad users can now interact with ChatGPT directly through Siri.
The ChatGPT app is freely available on the App Store, requiring an iPhone running iOS 16.4 or higher.
