Monday was Mariska Hargitay’s birthday, and at least one of her co-stars from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit wasn’t going to let the event go ignored. Christopher Meloni offered a message to Mariska Hargitay, 59, in a bizarre tribute video that was uploaded to Instagram. Only his forehead and eyes were visible due to Meloni’s near proximity to the camera.

He hissed at Mariska using the actress’ pet name that Meloni is known for using. “Marsha”, and asked her if she was aware of the significance of the day. Then, Christopher Meloni leaned into the camera even more and whispered that he was aware. 61-year-old Meloni captioned the post with an order for “Marsha” to “celebrate it”.

Special Names For the Christopher Meloni And Mariska Hargitay

Hargitay previously clarified that “Marsha” is “one of the numerous titles” her co-star has christened her with during a joint appearance with Meloni on Late Night With Seth Meyers in March. Along with “Bensler” – a combination of the characters of Meloni’s SUV’s last name, Benson, and Stabler, the last name of Meloni’s character Stabler, the pair also go use the name “Marshmelon” – a direct combination of Meloni and Marsha.

Since the show’s debut in 1999, Hargitay has played Detective Olivia Benson in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Detective Elliott Stabler, who was portrayed by Meloni, left the show in 2011. Last year, he made a comeback to the brand and took on the same role in his own spin-off series, Law & Order: Organized Crime.

In spite of the fact that they are both married to different people, the two actors have a natural rapport that has won over fans both on and off the screen. In fact, Hargitay even ended up being labeled as Meloni’s wife on his Wikipedia page. In September, Hargitay had even explained that even if she had no plans to marry Christopher Meloni, she still was something like a second wife to him.
