Taxpayers may still qualify for a stimulus check of up to $1,400 from the Internal Revenue Service. In December, the IRS revealed they would be providing automatic payments to eligible individuals who failed to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.
Here’s what you need to know about these stimulus checks.
What is the Recovery Rebate Credit and who qualifies for it?
The Recovery Rebate Credit is a refundable credit for those who did not receive one or more Economic Impact Payments, known as stimulus payments, as stated by the IRS. If you filed your 2021 tax return and left the Recovery Rebate Credit section empty or recorded it as $0 when you were actually eligible, you might be in line for a stimulus check soon.
What if I didn’t file my 2021 tax return?
New Yorkers may still be able to receive a stimulus check up to $1,400 from the Internal Revenue Service.
You can still qualify for the stimulus check by filing your 2021 tax return and claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit by April 15.
How much money might I receive?
While payments vary, the maximum amount you could receive is $1,400 according to the IRS. The total sum being distributed nationwide is $2.4 billion.

How can I receive my stimulus check?
As the payments are being automatically sent to eligible recipients, you don’t need to take any action to receive your stimulus check, as per the IRS. The IRS began the automatic distribution of payments in December.
Eligible taxpayers will receive a notification letter regarding the payment, which will either be sent via direct deposit or paper check.
