Disney+ Launches New ESPN Tile, Introduces Free Hulu Access and Enhanced Sports Content

Nearly a year ago, Disney+ began incorporating Hulu content into its platform. Today, the service expands further by including ESPN content through a new tile that will be visible in the Disney+ app starting now. As a bonus, even subscribers who don’t bundle will receive access to select Hulu and ESPN content at no additional cost.

ESPN now integrated into Disney+ app

Disney+ is evolving into an all-encompassing app hub. What originally served only Disney-branded content has grown into a platform where users can access Hulu, and now ESPN as well.

For some time, subscribers have been able to bundle Disney’s three main streaming services:

Now, ESPN+ users can enjoy their sports viewing directly within the Disney+ app, featuring ‘over 30,000 live sporting events each year’ along with original series such as Peyton’s Places.

With the anticipated launch of a standalone ESPN service next year, even more content will become accessible. Essentially, users will be able to experience the full cable-like ESPN experience directly in the Disney+ app. For now, what’s available is the current ESPN+ content.

Great news also awaits those subscribed solely to Disney+.

Disney+ subscribers can now access select Hulu and ESPN content for free

To enjoy all of the content available within the ESPN and Hulu tiles in the Disney+ app, a subscription to the three-service bundle is required.

However, Disney is extending a generous offer to standalone Disney+ subscribers as well.

The Hulu and ESPN tiles will now be accessible to all Disney+ subscribers, even if they do not subscribe to the bundle. Additionally, Disney is providing select free content within these tiles for anyone with an active Disney+ account.

Here are the specifics:

Standalone Disney+ subscribers will enjoy a curated selection of live sports, studio shows, and ESPN Films from ESPN+, along with a select array of TV series and films from Hulu. Upcoming offerings from ESPN+ include special events like “The Simpsons Funday Football” animated Monday Night Football game, a Christmas Day lineup featuring five NBA games plus the “Dunk The Halls” animated presentation, selected 30 For 30 documentaries, and Day 1 coverage of the Australian Open. From Hulu, standalone Disney+ subscribers can look forward to innovative titles at launch, including Shōgun, Will Trent, Solar Opposites, Reservation Dogs, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and others.

Providing extra content for standalone Disney+ subscribers is a lovely addition, and it should encourage Disney to convert some of those viewers into bundle subscribers in the future.
