Miracles do happen. An entire generation gave up on Elizabeth Taylor’s 1961s oscar dress by Christina Dior, which disappeared mysteriously after the oscar party. That has been discovered recently almost 60 years later in London. People are calling it a ‘holiday miracle’.
Elizabeth Taylor’s Oscar Dress Getting Ready For Auction
Elizabeth Taylor, the British – American actress who won the Oscar for her role in ‘Butterfield 8’, has been missing since that night in 1961. Marc Bohan originally designed the dress. The dress is a pale yellow chiffon bodice with gown style white skirt featuring chartreuse embroidery. Taylor paired it with opera-length gloves and wore matching diamonds with a pearl necklace.
She wore it only once, and according to her the dress is her ‘lucky charm’.On the night of the oscar, Elizabeth Taylor was escorted by her then-husband, Eddie Fischer. Taylor took that dress almost everywhere she traveled, and back then she used to give away her dresses, including this one. She gave it to Anne Sanchez, a close family friend, and an employee, and it was found plastic wrapped in a suitcase in Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s London home. And the couple visited there often.
The auction is taking place on December 6th and it is worth between $42,000 and $72,000.
This is not only a dress but a part of the legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor, and this dress becomes memorable not only because this was worn by her, but because this is a part of the academy award history for Taylor’s memorable speech. The award came as a shock to her back then, she expressed her gratitude for this award and nothing else.
