Emily Blunt, the famed English actress, recently apologized after an old interview at the Jonathan Ross interview resurfaced after 11 years. In the clip from the video, which was first aired in 2012, the actress was seen describing a waitress as enormous. The video was, quite naturally, shared widely over the week, with a lot of individuals criticizing Blunt for being fatphobic.
The star of several movies, most recently Oppenheimer, has since then stated that she was quite appalled that she said something so hurtful and insensitive. In the interview, Blunt recalled the making of the film Looper in the United States and then went on to detail the encounter with the restaurant server in a local diner. On visiting a franchise of Chili’s, the host of the show Jonathan Ross stated that if one went to that restaurant, they would realize why so many Americans were obese. To this, Blunt responds that the waitress serving them was also enormous, and she thinks the latter received freebie meals at the diner.
Emily Blunt Apologizes Over Decade Old Video
Emily Blunt then went on to describe the encounter in great detail, and how the waitress had recognized her. The star, who has been in blockbuster movies like The Devil Wears Prada, and A Quiet Place, put out a statement on Friday where she apologized for her remarks. Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, she stated that she really needed to address this as her jaw was on the floor watching this video from a decade ago. She was also quite appalled that she had said something so hurtful, insensitive, and unrelated to the entire story that was being discussed on the show.
Emily Blunt added that it was quite inconceivable for her to say or do something that would upset someone- hence she didn’t realize why she had made the statement in the first place. But since she had, and there was literal proof of that, she wanted to apologize for all the hurt that she could have caused for saying something so insensitive.
