USAA has faced multiple class-action lawsuits recently, and those who filed claims in one such case are nearing a deadline. This particular lawsuit alleges that USAA compromised the personal data of its insurance customers in May 2021 by granting third parties access to its insurance quote platform. While USAA denies these allegations, it has consented to a $3.25 million settlement.

The largest share of the settlement will be awarded to the individual who initiated the lawsuit, expected to receive up to $10,000. Other claimants might receive around $100.

Individuals eligible for compensation should have received communications regarding the class action and settlement details. Unless you explicitly opted out to preserve your right to sue USAA individually, awards will be issued automatically. It is crucial that the settlement administrator has your current contact information to send out your payment.

How to File Your Claim

To ensure payment, you may want to submit a Settlement Payment Election form, available here, so the settlement administrator has the necessary details to issue a check or electronic payment. The deadline to file this form is April 7.

Here’s how to file the form:

  • Step 1: Visit the USAA Data Security Litigation website, found here.
  • Step 2: Input your Claimant Identification Code found on your notice of the class action.
  • Step 3: Provide your confirmation code.
  • Step 4: Click the “Submit” button to complete the form submission.
  • Step 5: Adhere to any further instructions provided after form submission.

It is essential to note that the form will become inactive on April 7 at 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time.

Your alternative option is to print a hard copy of the form, available here, and send it to the settlement administrator, Angeion Group LLC, at the address listed on the form. Ensure that the form is postmarked by April 7. This might be a suitable option if you lost your Claimant Identification Code, as it will not be needed to fill out the form.

Unfortunately, it may take a significant amount of time to receive your award, if you receive it at all, since the court has yet to approve the settlement. A hearing is scheduled for May 21. Even upon approval, potential appeals could postpone resolution for a year or longer.

If you’re uncertain about your status as a class member or have additional inquiries regarding the lawsuit or settlement, you can reach out to Angeion Group at 888-464-4086.
