With the swift news updates regarding the TikTok ban, the discovery of a vulnerability within the iPhone’s USB-C port controller, and the reestablishment of net neutrality issues, this month has certainly been eventful. This week, I aim to pause and share my expanding reading list for the year, along with additional resources that I recommend for those embarking on their Apple security journey in 2025.

Security Bite is a dedicated weekly column on DMN. Every week, I provide insights into data privacy, review the newest vulnerabilities, and highlight emerging threats in the extensive Apple ecosystem comprising over 2 billion active devices.

Essential Apple security documentation

These resources are fundamental. They are essential reading for anyone eager to comprehend how Apple secures its software and hardware. While they may seem dry, they provide detailed explanations of the security concepts and technologies integrated by Apple in its products. A cup of coffee is advised.

Books I plan to read

If you’re anything like me, the vast array of cybersecurity literature can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to Apple-specific works. There are numerous ‘How to Create iOS Apps’ and ‘iPhone for Dummies’ type publications, but a disappointing shortage of material focused on Mac or iPhone security architecture, malware, etc. So, when Patrick Wardle announced the upcoming release of the second volume of The Art of Mac Malware this year, I was eager to get my hands on it. The first volume was an exceptional breakdown of how to analyze malware samples.

Highlights from last year’s reading

Here are notable reads from last year that I found particularly valuable.

I’m also curious to hear from you. Are there any great reads or resources that you would recommend? Please share them with fellow readers in the comments below!
