According to a current analysis released by The Washington Times, social media platform Facebook has been used by the rioters to provoke the Capitol riot on 6th January. New York Democrat and House Oversight and Reform Committee chairperson Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney inquired with FBI Director Christopher A.Wray about the role of  Parler, another social media platform in the U.S, in inducing the Capitol insurgence. Though Maloney’s letter to Wray does not give any specific indication to any other social media platforms, the Republicans demand a proper review of all other platforms too.

As the use of Parler among the rioters became clear after the basic investigations, Facebook initiated to take action against any objectionable contents regarding the riot immediately. It also reported deleting contents that encourage violence and the use of weapons for the riot.

Facebook Takes Action Against Contents That Promote Violence

The Facebook officials have informed that the company took prompt action by removing contents that are against their policies.

Parler, which had been a very popular platform among the rioters, was expelled from the app stores of Google and Apple. Amazon also expelled Parler from its web hosting service.

The Capitol insurgence started by the Trump supporters after Joe Biden won the presidential election. They attacked the police, spread violence, and vandalized the offices.

As the investigation began, police focused their attention on multiple social media platforms that were used by the law-breakers. It has been reported that several invaders were active on Facebook on that day and they created communities to plan and execute the invasion. The investigators received multiple pieces of evidence that proved how the social media platform was manipulated by the miscreants.

Regarding the matter, Facebook has informed to take necessary steps to remove and ban the users who were involved in promoting violence.
