Stimulus Check

A video purporting to show President Biden discussing a new batch of stimulus checks is a hoax. A video posted on Facebook purports to show President Joe Biden stating that a new round of stimulus checks would be made available to Americans in the coming weeks.

A split-screen shot of Biden making a speech at the top and signing an executive order at the bottom is shown in the video.

Stimulus Check Round 4 Is Very Unlikely

Because the video is phony and did not appear on any recent broadcast, Americans anticipating another round of stimulus checks would be disappointed.

This post was highlighted as part of Facebook’s attempts to fight fake news and disinformation on the platform’s News Feed. (Learn more about our Facebook relationship.)

The voice heard in the video isn’t that of Biden, but rather that of an impostor imitating his mannerisms. In the video clip of Biden, which loops every four seconds, the voice doesn’t match the mouth motions.

The videos of Biden speaking and issuing an executive order have nothing to do with stimulus funds.

The speech clip was obtained from a video of a speech he delivered on climate change at the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 1, 2021. The video shows Biden issuing an executive order on February 24, 2021, in response to the global scarcity of electrical chips.

The voiceover is based on remarks made by White House press secretary Jen Psaki on the American Rescue Plan Act on March 11, 2021.

Psaki’s statements were also repurposed as proof of a fresh batch of stimulus funds, which were previously rated False.

Americans have received three rounds of COVID-19 relief payments from the federal government. The fourth round of payments has been requested by several MPs, but it hasn’t been granted.

The Facebook post also claims that Medicare users would get $2,800, but couldn’t locate any evidence to support this assertion.
