Fond du Lac Resident Michael Kimmons Sentenced in Drug Overdose Death Case

The sentence comprises eight years of initial incarceration and 10 years of extended supervision.

FOND DU LAC – A man from Fond du Lac will serve time in prison for first-degree reckless homicide connected to a fentanyl overdose incident that occurred on January 5, 2021.

Michael J. Kimmons, 48, was found guilty in January, and Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Douglas Edelstein sentenced him on March 28 to eight years of initial confinement, followed by 10 years of extended supervision, as stated by Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities discovered that Kimmons arranged a drug transaction for the victim, who intended to use funds from a COVID-19 stimulus check to purchase drugs, subsequently handing over drugs to Kimmons.

The victim was discovered deceased in his residence, with fentanyl, cocaine, and the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine present in his system at the time of the autopsy.

The Fond du Lac Police Department conducted the investigation, with Toney serving as the prosecutor.
