Former iPhone 7 Users Begin Receiving Long-Awaited Compensation

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were remarkable smartphones during their release years of 2016 and 2017, though they did face an issue known as “Loop Disease” in several cases. Consequently, a class action lawsuit was instituted years ago, which was eventually approved last year. Now, a year later, those who previously owned iPhone 7 devices are starting to receive their settlement checks.

Payments are reportedly around $200 for each claim submitted. This is a decent windfall for former iPhone 7 users in 2025. However, it’s important to note that these payments derive from a $35 million settlement, with a significant portion benefiting the attorneys who initiated the class action suit.

The window for participation in the class action suit closed last summer.

Apple has maintained that it did not admit any wrongdoing and denied the allegations, even as it agreed to the settlement.

Loop Disease was said to arise from pressure applied to a specific area of the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Symptoms included diminished audio quality, particularly noticeable during FaceTime calls, among others.

The actual payments received will vary based on whether participants incurred costs for repairs related to the issue. Those who faced the problem but did not pay for a repair are likely to receive a lesser amount. At the time, the maximum payment was reported to be $350.

Similarly, last fall, customers of MacBooks featuring butterfly keyboards began to receive payments as part of a different settlement.
