The team behind Friend.tech, the decentralized social media platform, has gone on to add a new security feature which was borne out of many attempts to stem a flood of SIM swap attacks that were targeting the users. In a post made on X on the 9th of October, the team explained that one could now add a 2FA platform to the account for far more additional protection if the email service or cell carrier became compromised. The users of the platform will then be prompted to add yet another password when they end up signing into multiple new devices.

Friend.tech Has Added A New Security Feature

Friend.tech went on to add that neither the Privy teams, as well as friendtech can reset the passwords- so one should exercise caution when using the feature. The latest change also follows several SIM swap attacks which had been targeting the users of the decentralized social media platform since September. On 30th September, Froggie.eth was among the first in a string of users to be compromised by a SIM swap attack. This led to more Friend.tech users coming forward with similar stories in the next few days, with around 109 Ether being hacked. Around four users were also targeted over a period of 24 hours just a few days later.

In an X thread on the 8th of October, Jason Yanowitz, the founder of Blockworks, revealed one of the many ways through which the SIM swap attacks were being orchestrated. The process would involve a text message that would ask the user for a number change request.
