Frito-Lay has initiated a recall of certain Tostitos chips due to a potential contamination with undeclared milk, which could pose a risk for individuals with specific allergies.
The recall affects approximately 1,300 bags of the 13-ounce Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips. These bags might contain nacho cheese tortilla chips with undeclared milk that can trigger serious or life-threatening allergic reactions for those who are highly sensitive to milk.
The impacted bags were distributed to retailers and online sellers in 13 states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
No other Tostitos products are affected by this recall, according to Frito-Lay.
How can I verify if my bag is recalled?
The recalled chip bags will have a guaranteed fresh date of May 20, 2025, printed on the front, along with a specific manufacturing code.
If the manufacturing code features “XX” (as shown in the accompanying image) and the number is within the range of 30-55, then the bag is part of the recall.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to Frito-Lay’s customer support at 800-352-4477 during business hours on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST.
Brand recalled over 6,000 classic potato chips last year
In December, Frito-Lay recalled more than 6,300 of its 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to possible undeclared milk, which could lead to severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration categorized the recall as “Class I,” indicating the highest level of risk since there was a “reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
This alert stated that the batch of chips covered by the recall was distributed in Washington and Oregon and was available for sale starting November 3, 2024.
