The year 2025 is just around the corner, and Apple is poised to launch several impressive products. Here’s a sneak peek of five new devices anticipated to be released in early 2025.
M4 MacBook Air
The MacBook Air, Apple’s best-selling laptop, is set for a significant upgrade. Here’s what to anticipate from the new model arriving in early 2025:
- M4 chip
- 16GB of RAM as standard
- Optional nano-texture display
- 12MP Center Stage camera
- Enhanced battery life, potentially due to the M4
- Retention of the existing 13-inch and 15-inch size options
This update should make for a robust improvement to the MacBook Air, with a probable release in March—aligning with the launch timeline observed with the M3 model in early 2024.
iPhone SE 4
The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is poised to be the ideal choice for consumers seeking a new iPhone. It’s expected to launch in March.
Anticipated features for the new iPhone SE include:
- A design reminiscent of the iPhone 14, featuring an OLED display and no Home Button
- Face ID capability accompanied by a notch
- The A18 chip, recently introduced with the iPhone 16
- Support for Apple Intelligence, usually reserved for 15 and 16 Pro models
- 8GB of RAM
- A 48MP main camera, likely akin to the iPhone 16’s
- USB-C port integration
- Apple’s inaugural self-designed 5G modem
All these features are expected at an attractive price point—most likely under $499.
‘HomePad’ Smart Display
I am particularly enthusiastic about the forthcoming ‘HomePad’ smart display from Apple.
In a recent article by Mark Gurman for Bloomberg, he shed light on this promising addition to Apple’s Home product range. Expected features, according to Gurman, include:
- Focus on Siri, Communication, and Home control
- Compatibility with Safari, Music, Notes, and various Apple applications, but without an App Store
- Touch functionality, though primarily voice-operated through Apple Intelligence’s new App Intents
- A new operating system combining elements of watchOS and iOS StandBy mode, with a dynamic user interface that adjusts based on user proximity
- A size roughly equal to two side-by-side iPhones, featuring a 6-inch screen
- Built-in speakers, FaceTime camera, and a battery to power the device
- Design options for wall attachments and a speaker base for desks, tables, kitchens, and nightstands
- Emphasis on security and a video/audio intercom feature for connectivity with other smart home devices
- Customizable Home Screen using classic Apple widgets and Home controls
- Integration with video doorbells and security cameras, along with support for security alerts
I eagerly anticipate Apple’s renewed commitment to Home products. While Gurman notes the HomePad’s planned release in March, there’s some speculation that it could be delayed.
iPad, 11th Generation
After a relatively quiet 2023 for iPad, Apple initially planned to refresh its entire lineup in 2024. While new iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini models were released, the foundational iPad has remained unchanged.
In early 2025, however, the iPad will see its 11th generation update. Although details remain sparse, we know it will be equipped with a faster A-series chip and likely include about 8GB of RAM that supports Apple Intelligence. Additionally, it might incorporate Apple’s latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking technology.
Essentially, this appears to be a standard iterative enhancement for Apple’s most budget-friendly iPad.
Wildcard: Apple Watch SE 3, M3 iPad Air, Home Products
Lastly, there are a few additional Apple products that may join the ranks of the company’s early 2025 offerings. While we might not see all of these items until mid-year or beyond, it’s very likely that at least one will feature in Apple’s early product reveal.
The last Apple Watch SE was launched back in 2022, so it has been over two years since a new model came out. Speculation ahead of Apple’s September 2024 event pointed to the potential announcement of the SE 3, but this never materialized.
Typically, the Apple Watch SE releases have occurred in September, but there are two reasons to consider a March or April launch for the new model:
- If the device was indeed set for a September 2024 debut but missed it, Apple would have little incentive to delay a full year.
- Releasing the Apple Watch SE alongside the iPhone SE 4 could make sense strategically.
For the iPad Air, while it recently received an upgrade with the M2 chip in May, rumors suggest an M3 upgrade is forthcoming. This might not occur until around May, but specifics remain unclear, and scant information is available about the new edition.
Other possibilities for early 2025 include the HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K. While there are no specific timings for these releases, Apple could synchronize them with the launch of the HomePad as part of a broader strategy for new Home devices.
Apple’s Early 2025 Product Summary
While Apple’s plans may evolve, the arrival of these five or more devices in the early stretch of 2025 could signify a particularly strong beginning to the year for the company. This all leads into what promises to be an exciting WWDC and a thrilling fall product launch period.
