Google Launches Gemini App for iPhone Featuring Gemini Live

After being integrated into the Google (Search) application since February, Gemini has transformed into its own independent app for the iPhone.

This means you’ll see a Gemini icon on your iPhone’s home screen, eliminating the need to launch the Google app and navigate through tabs or use the Search widget.

The user interface for Gemini on iOS now aligns with the Android version, showcasing a minimalistic home screen that greets users with a “Hello” message, echoing the simplicity of Google Search. You can view your “Chats & Gems” conversation history in the top left corner, while the text input area has been streamlined to simply say “Ask Gemini.”

Google markets this app as a resource for studying and image generation with the aid of Imagen 3, allowing users to attach photos to their queries. Gemini Extensions grant access to data from YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, Calendar, and various other first-party services.

This application importantly introduces Gemini Live to the iPhone, having first launched on Android in September. Users can engage in natural dialogue, with the flexibility to interrupt Gemini to pose questions or add new details, as well as shift topics. A Live Activity feature enables interaction with Gemini Live while utilizing other applications or when the iPhone is locked.

You can select from one of 10 distinct voices for all responses from Gemini. At launch, the app supports languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

The free Google Gemini app is now accessible in 35 languages globally, available for download from the App Store. Additionally, Gemini continues to be available via the Google app should you prefer that method or wish to use the mobile web version.
