Gurman: iPhone 17 Pro to Offer a ‘Subtle’ New Design

As reported in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the design of the iPhone 17 Pro may not represent a significant evolution compared to previous models. Initial speculation indicated a potential for a more radical redesign, but it now appears the iPhone 17 Pro will closely resemble its predecessor from last year.

In his newsletter, Gurman advises not to anticipate a “particularly bold new look” for the iPhone 17 Pro. He notes that the front design will be “quite similar” to that of the 16 Pro, while the rear camera setup will have a “meaningfully different” appearance.

While early rumors hinted at a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, current information suggests this change will not be implemented.

Gurman goes further to clarify that the anticipated two-tone design will not be featured:

Some images circulating online show a two-tone design with a dark camera block over a silver back. These representations, like many other renders available, do not accurately depict what is expected.

According to my sources, the iPhone 17 Pro will not showcase a two-toned back. Instead, the camera area will match the color of the device itself, indicating a more incremental approach to design changes: the iPhone 17 Pro will not drastically differ from its current models.

In summary, the design will not see a significant leap from the 16 Pro, although it seems the camera bar aesthetic will remain. It will simply blend with the iPhone’s body color.

Gurman also pointed out that more substantial modifications are anticipated for 2027, coinciding with the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, including both a foldable model and an “audacious new Pro version.”
