How Closing Your Apple Watch Rings Benefits Sleep, Heart Health, and Mental Wellbeing

In celebration of the Apple Watch’s upcoming 10th anniversary on April 24th, Apple has released new research findings today that highlight the links between closing Activity Rings and sleep quality, heart health, and mental wellness. This data has been gathered from over 140,000 participants in the Apple Heart and Movement Study…

According to the findings, Apple reports that compared to individuals who rarely closed their Activity Rings, those who regularly closed them were:

  • 48 percent less likely to suffer from poor sleep quality, characterized by frequent awakenings during the night
  • 73 percent less likely to exhibit increased resting heart rate levels
  • 57 percent less likely to indicate heightened stress levels, based on the Perceived Stress Scale-4 (PSS-4), which is a four-question tool that evaluates how individuals perceive their stress

The Apple Watch will mark its 10th anniversary this month, having first been launched on April 24, 2015. It was revealed during Apple’s special event on September 9, 2014.

Alongside the research release, Apple has also introduced a special limited-edition award for Apple Watch users who successfully close their Activity Rings on April 24.
