Are you looking for free money? Georgia taxpayers have access to millions in unclaimed funds.

The IRS estimates that approximately 1.1 million Americans haven’t filed their taxes for 2021, resulting in about $1 billion in unclaimed income. However, time is running out. Here’s what we know:

What is the amount of the stimulus checks?

According to the IRS, the average refund for 2021 is estimated to be $781. Payments can vary based on various factors, but the maximum amount per individual is $1,400. This does not factor in the Recovery Rebate Credit or any additional credits that might apply.

Who qualifies for the stimulus checks?

This stimulus is specifically for individuals who did not file a tax return for 2021 and for those who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, which applies to individuals who did not receive one or more Economic Impact Payments related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Will Georgia taxpayers receive stimulus checks?

The IRS estimates that around 38,500 taxpayers in Georgia might be eligible for these stimulus payments, with about $33.5 million waiting to be claimed and average refunds estimated at $720 each.

How can you claim the stimulus check?

Simply file your 2021 tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit. Taxpayers who have already submitted their 2021 tax return will not need to take any further action to receive their stimulus check. The IRS started sending payments automatically in December. Eligible individuals will receive a letter informing them of the payment, with funds either directly deposited or sent via paper check.

When is the deadline for claiming the stimulus check?

You have until April 15 to claim the credit and any other refunds you may be entitled to.
