Apple Music on Windows Now Offers Dolby Atmos Audio Support

This week, Apple introduced a significant update to the Apple Music application for Windows, allowing PC users to access Spatial Audio tracks featuring Dolby Atmos.

According to discussions on Reddit, Apple has released a new support guide on its website outlining the process for playing Dolby Atmos audio through the Apple Music app on Windows. For those who might not know, Dolby Atmos provides an “immersive, three-dimensional” sound experience for compatible headphones and speakers.

If you are a Windows user subscribed to Apple Music, ensure that you have the latest version of the app installed. It can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft Store. Additionally, you will need to install the Dolby Access application on your PC, as the Dolby Atmos codec is not pre-installed in Windows.

It’s important to note that while the Dolby Access app is free for external speakers, using the codec for headphones requires a fee of $14.99.

If you have both the latest version of the Apple Music app and the Dolby Access app installed, simply enable Dolby Atmos playback in the Apple Music settings to start enjoying the new features.

The Apple Music app was launched for Windows in 2023, serving as a successor to iTunes (which remains available but no longer receives updates with new functionality). In addition, Apple has introduced the Apple TV app for Windows, along with another application called Apple Devices, which facilitates backup and restoration of iOS devices from a PC.
