In recent news, various netizens over several social media platforms have raised eyebrows regarding the latest look of Iggy Azalea in her recent music video. The 31-year-old rapper from Australia sports heavy makeup and black hair in her new single “I Am the Stripclub” which was released on the 1st of July.
Interestingly, and this is why people have been clamoring about it, she has always been blond. After the video got released on the 1st of July, several viewers have accused the artist of ‘Blackfishing’- the usage of makeup to look like someone of African-American descent.
Rapper Iggy Azalea Has Discarded The Backlash
In response to the criticism, the rapper tweeted on the 2nd of July that she didn’t really care about the backlash that has come by. Iggy Azalea further stated that she is still the same color she was born with except that the room in the music video is dimly lit.
Nevertheless, the makeup for the video has remained the same throughout the video with just a Smokey eye in one of the scenes along with a wig. She later tweeted that she couldn’t personally care about something that has its foundations in ridicule.
The rapper went on to say that she had been wearing the same makeup shade that she has been wearing for the last three years. The makeup artist that works for Iggy Azalea, Eros, has stepped forward to put his two cents in the controversy. The artist stated that the star had literally put on the same makeup throughout the entire view.
Several fans went on to support Iggy Azalea for her makeup. One social media user stated that most parts of the video were shot in the shadows where the rapper came out much lighter. There should have been no issue or controversy regarding this.
