Type is a streamlined note-taking application designed for your Mac. It enables you to quickly jot down notes while keeping them neatly organized, all triggered by a simple keyboard shortcut. It’s an optimal choice for capturing ideas swiftly without the usual distractions.
How it functions
Type operates like Spotlight, offering a text box that appears when you hit a specific key combination. I assigned mine to alt-space for quick access. Once opened, you can easily create a new note and enter anything you’d like into that box.
This setup is ideal for meetings where you only need to take brief notes. It automatically records timestamps for each entry, allowing you to remember specific details effortlessly.
You can also organize different events into separate notes, or choose to consolidate everything into a single note if you prefer. Type saves your notes as local text files on your Mac, ensuring your privacy and easy management—your data is not confined within the app.
Features Overview
Type allows importing of notes from other applications like Obsidian, enabling users to expand on their existing notes. Customization options include modifying date formats, toggling between plaintext and markdown, and the ability to detach notes from Type to reduce clutter in your interface without actually removing any data.
Future updates will introduce a persistent app option for those who prefer not to rely on keyboard shortcuts, as well as note search and export functions.
Get ‘Type’
You can download Type for free on the Mac App Store as a 7-day trial. After this trial period, the full app is priced at $7.99 for a one-time purchase, and it requires macOS 13.0 Ventura or newer.
