Earlier this year, Insta360 launched the Flow 2 Pro, their newest smartphone gimbal, which I had the opportunity to review on DMN. Recently, the company announced a new accessory for Flow 2 Pro owners. Named the “AI Tracker,” this module features a built-in camera sensor designed to enhance tracking capabilities for both people and objects.
Introducing the new Insta360 Flow 2 Pro AI Tracker
While most gimbals provide subject tracking via their companion apps, Insta360 Flow 2 Pro users can take advantage of Apple’s DockKit API support. This feature utilizes the device’s sensors and machine learning to effortlessly track and manage the gimbal’s movements.
To offer advanced AI-driven tracking without depending on third-party software, Insta360 has launched the AI Tracker.
As noted by the company, this new device keeps subjects “ideally framed” even in challenging settings. It can effectively manage obstructions like individuals walking into the frame and is capable of tracking both people and animals. The AI Tracker also responds to palm gestures to initiate tracking from a distance.
Although AI Tracker is primarily aimed at Android users (because DockKit support is exclusive to iOS), it still holds advantages for iPhone users. Beyond tracking capabilities, the AI Tracker doubles as an LED flash with adjustable brightness and color temperature settings.
If this concept sounds familiar, it could be because DJI recently released a similar accessory called the Multifunctional Module for their latest gimbal, which I also reviewed here. It’s quite fascinating to observe companies investing in such accessories to improve the user experience without mandating a specific app.
The Insta360 AI Tracker for Flow 2 Pro is currently available for $39.99. Additionally, customers can purchase the Insta360 gimbal bundled with the new accessory for $179.99.
