Next year, Instagram will introduce AI video editing powered by text prompts. The platform’s head showcased the capability to alter elements such as clothing and video backgrounds, along with more whimsical features like adding animated characters.
Previously, the company revealed a demo (below) of fully AI-generated video, indicating it was merely a research initiative. However, it appears that the first practical implementation of this technology is arriving sooner than anticipated.
Earlier in the year, Meta unveiled an AI video creation tool called Movie Gen, showcasing AI-generated videos created solely from user text prompts.
At that time, the company claimed that Movie Gen was still “just research,” suggesting that it would not be widely available for some time. You can view the brief demo video here:
While generating entire videos purely from text may take more time, Instagram’s leader Adam Mosseri demonstrated a text-driven AI video editing feature that the company aims to roll out next year.
I’m really eager about Movie Gen, our preliminary AI research tool that will allow you to modify nearly any part of your videos with just a text prompt. We aim to bring this to Instagram next year. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
The demonstration featured Mosseri changing his cardigan into a leather jacket, accessorizing with a gold chain, and altering his background to showcase snowy landscapes, the Eiffel Tower, and Times Square in New York. It also included the introduction of a 3D animated cow, along with Mosseri transforming into an Animoji-style figure.
No precise timeline has been provided, other than a hopeful outlook for sometime in 2025.
