Instructions for Claiming Your February 2025 Check

Stimulus Payment $1702: The state of Alaska has officially confirmed the distribution of its 2025 stimulus check via the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program. This initiative allocates a portion of the state’s revenue generated from natural resources, such as oil and gas, to its residents. This year’s payment is set at $1,702, marking a significant increase from last year’s amount of $1,312.

This increase is attributed to Alaska’s robust economic performance, which has enabled the state to generate additional revenue. In 2024, the state government earmarked over $914 million from the fund for the benefit of more than 600,000 eligible residents.

What is the Permanent Fund Dividend?

The PFD is a distinctive program in Alaska that allocates a portion of the state’s income from natural resources to its residents. Unlike other states that depend on income taxes, Alaska utilizes its oil and gas revenues to fund this program. This approach not only provides financial support to residents but also motivates them to take an active role in conserving the state’s resources.

This year’s payment consists of two components:

  • $1,403.83 as the basic fund dividend.
  • $298.17 as energy assistance to help mitigate rising energy expenses during Alaska’s frigid winters.

Stimulus Payment $1702: Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the $1,702 stimulus check, residents must fulfill specific criteria:

  • Residency: Applicants must have resided in Alaska for the entire previous calendar year and intend to remain there indefinitely.
  • Continuous Stay: They must have maintained residence in the state for at least 12 consecutive months without applying to relocate elsewhere.
  • Legal Conditions: Applicants must have spent a minimum of 72 hours in Alaska within the last 24 months, and they must not have been imprisoned for any felonies in the past 12 months or for misdemeanors if they have two or more offenses since January 1, 1997.

How to Apply for the Stimulus Check?

The application process for claiming the $1,702 payment is straightforward. Applications for the 2025 PFD will be accepted from January 1 to March 31, 2025. Residents can apply online through the PFD portal at pfd.alaska.gov or send their applications via mail.

Even though January 1 is a public holiday in Alaska, the online portal will open at 9:00 a.m. (AKST) that day. Applicants can use the portal to verify their eligibility and track the status of their application. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2025.

Why is the Payment Higher This Year?

The increased payment amount is a result of Alaska’s impressive economic growth. The state has generated more revenue from its natural resources, enabling it to distribute a larger dividend to its residents. The additional $298.17 for energy assistance is particularly beneficial during Alaska’s severe winters when energy costs tend to rise.
