The iOS 18.2 beta 3 introduces a new feature for customizing the Camera Control on the iPhone 16. You can now launch the Camera app with a single tap of the Camera Control, even if your display is turned off.
Previously, when your iPhone 16’s display is off, you would need to tap the Camera Control once to wake the screen and again to open the Camera app. This latest toggle in iOS 18 allows you to skip the initial tap.
To access this feature, go to the Settings app, select “Display and Brightness,” and look for the new “Require Screen On” toggle located at the bottom. This toggle is enabled by default. If you turn off this option, a single press of the Camera Control will directly open the Camera app, regardless of whether your iPhone 16’s screen is illuminated.
This change mimics the functionality of the Action button when it’s configured to open the Camera app. It’s faster to access the Camera app, but it may also lead to more unintentional activations.
The iOS 18.2 beta 3 version is currently available for developers testing the beta program. A new public beta is anticipated later this week, with a full release scheduled for everyone in December.
