Apple has unveiled beta 2 of iOS 18.2, introducing notable enhancements, including ChatGPT capabilities. This update integrates ChatGPT into Siri and bolsters AI writing features. A new addition in today’s beta allows users to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus account via Settings.
ChatGPT Plus Upgrade Now Integrated into iOS 18.2
The ChatGPT feature is part of Apple’s new Intelligence offerings within iOS 18.2, functioning across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This allows OpenAI’s assistant to serve as an alternative to Siri and to enhance existing Apple writing tools.
When Apple initially announced its partnership with OpenAI regarding ChatGPT, it was reported that this was a non-monetary arrangement. However, today’s release highlights the mutual benefits that both OpenAI and Apple are gaining.
To upgrade to ChatGPT Plus, navigate to Settings ⇾ Apple Intelligence & Siri ⇾ ChatGPT in the latest iOS 18.2 beta version.
While it’s possible to use ChatGPT integration in iOS 18.2 without an OpenAI account, having one unlocks additional features.
You can register for a free account to link your ChatGPT interactions with OpenAI’s existing data, or opt for a paid account.
It appears that Apple and OpenAI have established some form of revenue-sharing agreement for users opting to upgrade to a paid account through iOS 18.2.
ChatGPT Plus Features for iPhone Users
The upgrade option in Settings highlights several features available with the upgrade, including:
- 5x more messages on GPT-4 and access to even more advanced models
- Increased limits for file uploads, photo handling, image generation, and web browsing
- More natural, real-time conversations through ChatGPT’s enhanced voice mode
The current subscription cost for ChatGPT Plus is $19.99 per month.
