In September, when Apple unveiled the iPhone 16, they highlighted various functions of the new Camera Control, such as toggling between camera modes and zooming via swipe. However, a notable feature was absent, which is now included in the latest beta of iOS 18.2: the ability to lock focus and exposure using Camera Control.
Expanded Capabilities for Camera Control with iOS 18.2
The second beta of iOS 18.2, released to developers on Monday, introduces the long-awaited focus and exposure lock for Camera Control on iPhone 16 models. Users need to activate this new feature in the Camera app settings. Once activated, they can simply press and hold the Camera Control to maintain the current focus and exposure settings.
The camera settings will stay locked until the user lifts their finger from the button. This functionality was previously demonstrated by Apple during one of the iPhone 16 showcases in September, with a promise that it would come in a future software update. Now we can confirm that update is iOS 18.2.
Apple initiated testing of iOS 18.2 even before making iOS 18.1 available to the public. This major update includes several enhancements related to Apple Intelligence, such as Genmoji, Image Playground, integration with ChatGPT, and Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 models. Additionally, it simplifies the management of default apps and extends Apple Intelligence to more regions.
Apple has announced that iOS 18.2 is set for public release in December, while a beta version is currently available exclusively to developers.
