iOS 18.2 Introduces Two Hidden Features for Managing Your iPhone’s Volume

iOS 18.2 introduces several noticeable features like a revamped Mail interface, the new Image Playground app, and Genmoji. Additionally, it has two new options hidden within the Settings app: you can now return volume controls to your iPhone’s Lock Screen and establish maximum volume limits.

#1: Restore volume slider on Lock Screen

Adjusting volume directly from your iPhone’s Lock Screen was previously a streamlined process, thanks to a dedicated slider during audio playback.

That feature was taken away with iOS 16, but now you can reinstate it using a new setting in iOS 18.2.

To enable the volume slider on your iPhone’s Lock Screen, follow these steps in the Settings app:

  1. Navigate to Accessibility
  2. Scroll down to Audio & Visual
  3. Activate the ‘Always Show Volume Control’ option

Now, whenever you’re playing any audio, the Lock Screen will display a handy, always-visible slider for volume adjustments.

#2: Set maximum volume limit

The second feature allows you to set a limit on how loud the built-in speaker of your iPhone can get.

This is particularly useful if you have a young child using your iPhone or iPad, ensuring the volume doesn’t exceed a certain level. It can also prevent accidental loud music in undesirable settings.

To access this feature, go to Settings ⇾ Sounds & Haptics, where you’ll find a new ‘Volume Limit’ option under ‘Built-in Speaker.’

As described by Apple:

Establish a limit on the maximum volume of audio played through your iPhone speaker, including songs, movies, and other media. This restriction does not apply to phone calls, FaceTime calls, emergency alerts, ringtones, alarms, system sounds, or Find My notifications.

You can set this maximum volume limit anywhere from 20% to 90% of the standard volume level.
