How to Install the iOS 18.2 Public Beta

The Beta Software Program by Apple is available for free to anyone who owns an Apple device. You can register for it here.

Once enrolled, you’ll have the ability to install public beta versions on your devices.

If you have previously opted into public betas, there’s no need to sign up again. Simply go to Settings ⇾ Software Update on your device to check for iOS 18.2 available for download.

iOS 18.2 represents a significant update for iPhone users, particularly regarding Apple Intelligence capabilities. This version includes some of the most advanced AI functions, such as:

A crucial note: the image generation capabilities currently require joining a waitlist, so it might take some time before you’re granted access. The sooner you join the waitlist, the better your chances.

This update also brings localized English support for Apple Intelligence in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.

While iOS 18.1 introduced various new features, the enhancements in iOS 18.2 elevate the iPhone’s status as a robust AI tool.

But there’s more! The iOS 18.2 public beta also introduces several enhancements beyond Apple Intelligence. If your iPhone isn’t AI-compatible, you’ll still benefit from the following improvements:

  • A revamped Mail app featuring enhanced inbox categorization and larger contact photos.
  • Find My now enables sharing the location of lost items with others, even if they don’t own an Apple device.
  • A new Settings hub for configuring default apps across various categories.

Release Date for Public iOS 18.2

If you’re intrigued by iOS 18.2 but hesitant about potential bugs or performance issues with the beta, the official release isn’t far away.

Traditionally, Apple rolls out its x.2 updates around mid-December. Last year, iOS 17.2 debuted on December 11, while iOS 16.2 was launched on December 13 the year before.

Apple has confirmed that December will be the launch month, but the exact date remains unclear. Mark Gurman believes Apple is aiming for the first week of December.

Whether it’s during the first or second week of December, the public launch is coming soon.
