iOS 18.2 is just a few weeks away and promises to be a significant software update with some of the most advanced Apple Intelligence features introduced so far. Below is the complete list of AI enhancements that will be available soon.
The Second Wave of Apple Intelligence Features in iOS 18.2
The launch of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 brought a range of new functionalities, but what awaits us next is even more exciting. Many eagerly awaited AI capabilities will be available on compatible devices with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2.
Here’s what to expect:
- Genmoji: Design your own custom emoji to use in any app.
- ChatGPT integration with Siri: Siri will be able to access ChatGPT’s extensive knowledge, allowing you to directly engage with ChatGPT.
- Image Playground: Generate unique AI images in differing styles such as animation, illustration, or sketches.
- Visual Intelligence: Utilize the iPhone 16’s Camera Control to gain relevant insights from your environment.
- Image Wand: Transform your sketches or notes into stunning illustrations within the Notes app.
- Compose with ChatGPT: OpenAI’s assistant can create original text from scratch in any application.
- Custom Rewrites: Apple’s writing features allow you to ‘Describe your change’ for tailored AI rewrites.
- Language Expansion: Enhanced English support for users in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
Exclusive Waitlist for Image Generation Access
When Apple Intelligence was initially introduced in iOS 18.1, it included a waitlist for users. A similar approach will be taken with the new AI capabilities in iOS 18.2, but this time, it will only apply to image generation features.
Once you install iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2, you’ll need to request special access to utilize features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand.
This unique waitlist is in line with Apple’s commitment to ‘Responsible AI,’ promoting the principle of ‘Designing with Care.’ As the company explains:
We implement measures at every stage of our process, from design and model training to feature development and quality evaluation in order to anticipate how our AI tools might be misused or cause potential harm. We will consistently and proactively refine our AI tools based on user feedback.
In essence, Apple aims to ensure that its AI tools are not misused for harmful purposes, whether purposefully or inadvertently. As such, it will gradually release image generation access over time.
iOS 18.2 Release Summary
iOS 18.2 is currently in the public beta phase, with a full launch expected in early to mid-December. Once released, users will have access to nearly all the announced Apple Intelligence features.
