Apple has launched the second public beta of iOS 18.3, delivering the latest iteration of the upcoming software update to those enrolled in the public beta program. Here’s what’s included.
Updates in iOS 18.3 Public Beta 2
The initial iOS 18.3 public beta was made available in mid-December, followed by a holiday hiatus. Now that Apple is back in full swing, we can expect more consistent beta releases.
The first beta established a framework for integrating compatible robotic vacuums within the Home app.
The second beta introduces an additional feature: the ability to perform recurring calculations in the Calculator app.
The introduction of iOS 18 brought significant modifications to the Calculator app, including the unfortunate removal of the ability to repeatedly tap the equals button for ongoing calculations.
With iOS 18.3 beta 2, Apple has reinstated this functionality, allowing users to perform repeated operations as they could previously.
In addition, beta 2 comes with several bug fixes and performance enhancements, although it remains relatively sparse in terms of new features.
Steps to Install the Public Beta
Current public beta participants can access the beta 2 update by navigating to Settings ⇾ Software Update on their iPhone.
If you’re not enrolled in the public beta yet, you’ll need to join Apple’s free Beta Software Program to register your device. After that, the software update will be available in the Settings app.
In summary, iOS 18.3 is shaping up to be a comparatively minor update. Following the feature-rich 18.1 and 18.2 versions released late last year, it appears Apple’s developers are taking a simpler approach in preparation for the more extensive iOS 18.4 expected in April.
