The Release Candidate for iOS 18.3 is being distributed to developers and public beta participants. This rollout comes just a week after Apple issued the third beta, which introduced substantial modifications to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries function.
iOS 18.3 RC carries the build number 22D60 and is accessible to all developers in the beta program along with public beta testers.
Initially, iOS 18.3 seemed like it would be a modest update compared to the substantial iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 updates. However, last week Apple shifted gears and implemented several key updates to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries feature. These adjustments followed feedback from media organizations, including the BBC, regarding the spread of misinformation through inaccurate summaries.
To tackle these concerns, Apple introduced several modifications with the iOS 18.3 beta 3:
- The Apple Intelligence notification summaries have been completely suspended for the News & Entertainment app categories. They are expected to return in a subsequent software update.
- Users can now deactivate notification summaries for individual apps directly on the Lock Screen of their iPhones.
- Notification summaries now utilize italicized text, providing a clearer distinction from standard notifications.
- When turning on notification summaries, Apple emphasizes that the feature remains in beta and “may contain errors.”
It’s anticipated that iOS 18.3 will be available for the general public later this month. Whether Apple has additional modifications in store for this update is still uncertain.
