iOS 18.3 Teases Upcoming ‘Invites’ App from Apple for Event Management

This week, Apple launched the second beta of iOS 18.3, which may not be groundbreaking as it does not introduce major new features. However, it has unveiled insights into a possibly new application called “Invites.”

Apple developing a new ‘Invites’ app

DMN initially discovered traces of the unreleased “Apple Invites” app in one of the iOS 18.2 betas. The related code was removed from the final release but has reappeared in iOS 18.3 beta 2.

Upon examining the code, it appears the app is intended to assist users in organizing meetings and in-person gatherings. While Apple’s Calendar app serves this function, the new Invites app is anticipated to offer additional features.

Code implications indicate that the Invites app will connect with iCloud and could also feature a web version accessible on iCloud.com. Furthermore, it integrates with a new iOS 18 daemon known as GroupKit, which oversees database models for groups. This daemon has been available since the initial release of iOS 18.0 and has yet to be utilized by any Apple applications.

Essentially, the app would provide users with a roster of invitees and their attendance status for events. It remains uncertain if Invites will exist as an independent application or if Apple envisions its integration with other system components (potentially as a mini iMessage feature). Presumably, this app would present a more engaging interface compared to the Calendar app’s current event invitation process.

At the WWDC 2024 event, when iOS 18 was revealed, Apple made no mention of this app, indicating the possibility that the company is merely exploring its feasibility and could ultimately choose to scrap or defer it to a future iOS update.

In October, DMN reported that Apple is also developing a new App Store that focuses on gaming and will merge functionalities from Game Center. Although internal builds of iOS 18 have reportedly included this app, it may also be delayed until iOS 19.
