Apple has launched iOS 18.4 for iPhone users, introducing Priority Notifications, new emojis, various updates to CarPlay, and more features. However, many users report that this update has rendered CarPlay unresponsive in their vehicles.
On forums like Reddit, users have described encountering numerous bugs with CarPlay following the iOS 18.4 update. Several users have noted that the “Now Playing” information from CarPlay no longer displays on their car’s gauge cluster.
More concerning, some users are facing significant connectivity issues with CarPlay on iOS 18.4. One user reported that their iPhone continuously connects and disconnects when using wireless CarPlay. Another claimed that the update “broke” their wireless CarPlay, leading to an unstable connection. A Honda owner mentioned it now takes multiple attempts to connect CarPlay, requiring them to plug and unplug or even restart the car over five times since upgrading to iOS 18.4.
One user shared their experience:
I encountered the exact same issue in my 2025 Mazda CX-30 after updating to the latest iOS. My partner faced the same problem and had to disconnect and reconnect his device to the vehicle FIVE times before it worked! I tried three times without success, so I’ve reverted to the old USB connection until Apple releases a patch or something.
The problems seem to affect various car brands, including Honda, Mazda, Audi, and Ford. Users have attempted numerous fixes, such as re-pairing their phones with their vehicles and rebooting both their phones and cars.
If you need to remove your car from CarPlay, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap General
- Tap CarPlay
- Swipe left on your car’s name and delete it
After that, you will need to re-pair your iPhone with your car to use CarPlay again.
One Reddit user reported that Volkswagen customer service acknowledged the iOS 18.4 issues but stated that fixing the problems is up to Apple. As of now, Apple has not officially recognized the issues. iOS 18.5 is currently in beta with developers and is anticipated to be released next month.
