iOS 18.4 Introduces a Handy New Feature to Apple’s Passwords App

The iOS 18.4 beta 1 has been released, now accessible to public beta users. Among the various updates, a useful enhancement has been introduced to the verification codes within Apple’s Passwords app. Here are the highlights.

Countdown feature in iOS 18.4’s Passwords app indicates when codes will expire and refresh

According to Aaron Perris on X, the first beta of iOS 18.4 brings a significant improvement to Apple’s Passwords app.

Users will now find a visual countdown timer for verification codes, providing a clearer insight into when they will expire and refresh.

Upon navigating to the Codes section of the app, you will notice a newly implemented timer located in the upper-right corner. This timer appears as a simple circular ring that fills with green color, representing the remaining time before your current verification codes expire.

When the circle is fully filled with green, all active codes will automatically expire and refresh.

This expiration timer is also visible in the detailed view of specific password entries. Any entry with a verification code will now display the expiration timer alongside the current code.

Perris also points out that this feature is available in macOS Sequoia 15.4 and works within the Passwords Menu Bar app as well.

This may be a minor adjustment, but it significantly enhances a crucial security element, which previously lacked an evident warning for code expiration.
