iOS 18.4: iPhone Mirroring Feature Excluded from EU Release

When Apple unveiled iOS 18 last year, they indicated that certain features, such as Apple Intelligence, would not be accessible to users within the European Union due to regulatory issues. While iOS 18.4 has enabled Apple Intelligence in the EU, one feature remains off-limits: iPhone Mirroring.

iPhone Mirroring remains unavailable in the EU

On Monday, Apple released the Release Candidate (RC) build of iOS 18.4 to developers and beta testers. This update marks the first instance of adding non-English languages to Apple Intelligence and also activates AI features for EU users.

Many users speculated that this update would also make iPhone Mirroring available in the EU, but that did not occur. Currently, the feature remains inaccessible in most European nations.

iPhone Mirroring allows users to wirelessly display and control their iPhone screen from a Mac.

According to Apple, this feature has been disabled for EU users due to “regulatory uncertainties” linked to the Digital Markets Act antitrust legislation. The company asserts that the DMA’s “interoperability requirements” could compel them to “compromise the integrity of our products” in a manner that could pose risks to users.

Apple has not explained why Apple Intelligence is debuting in the EU while iPhone Mirroring is not. Additionally, SharePlay Screen Sharing, which allows users to share their screen during FaceTime calls, is also unavailable in the EU.

iOS 18.4 is set to be officially released to the public in early April.
