iOS 19: Upcoming Features, Release Date, and More Insights

Believe it or not, we are only three months away from the unveiling of iOS 19. With that imminent launch, speculation is rising about new features, supported devices, and more for iOS 19.

Will your iPhone be compatible with iOS 19?

Each year, one critical question arises: which iPhone models will be compatible with the latest iOS update? Fortunately for iPhone users in 2025, there’s good news. According to the often-reliable sources at iPhoneSoft, every device that is compatible with iOS 18 will also receive the iOS 19 update.

This means the following devices will support iOS 19 this year:

  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS and XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 and 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd gen)
  • iPhone SE (3rd gen)

It’s important to note that not all features in iOS 19 will be accessible on all iPhone models. Some of the more resource-intensive features, such as Apple Intelligence, will be limited to the latest iPhone models.

Modifications to Siri (sort of)

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple is working on a comprehensive overhaul of how Siri functions within iOS 19. Currently, Siri operates on two distinct systems: one for basic commands, like timers and alarms, and another for advanced commands. The latter also manages new AI features introduced in iOS 18, such as personal context and actions within apps.

With iOS 19, Apple plans to integrate these two systems into one, which should enhance performance and speed up Siri’s responses to all types of requests.

However, Apple has encountered delays with other significant Siri changes originally intended for iOS 19. Bloomberg previously mentioned that a new version of Siri, designed to mimic human interaction, would be part of the iOS 19 update. Unfortunately, this upgrade is behind schedule and won’t be revealed at WWDC in June.

Currently, iOS 18 allows for ChatGPT integration through Siri and Apple Intelligence. Nonetheless, Apple aims to internalize this functionality in iOS 19, emphasizing the privacy advantages of its platform compared to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg notes: “All indications suggest that iOS 19 will not feature any notable consumer-facing changes to Apple Intelligence.”

Redesign of the Camera app

In addition to updates to Apple Intelligence and Siri, Apple is expected to refresh the Camera app with iOS 19. According to YouTuber Jon Prosser, the new Camera app will showcase a design that “reflects the design philosophy of visionOS” emphasizing transparency.

Apple is reportedly simplifying the controls at the bottom of the interface to include two toggles for “Photo” and “Video.” Users can switch between various modes in each menu and adjust settings such as exposure.

At the top of the interface, users will have swift access to controls for features such as Live Photos and flash, as well as settings for resolution and frame rate. A dedicated button will also remain for accessing the user’s photo library.

Delays

As we near the announcement of iOS 19 in June, Apple continues to finalize features that were revealed for iOS 18 last year. Many impressive and powerful Apple Intelligence features unveiled for iOS 18 have not yet rolled out and are not anticipated until the release of iOS 18.4 in March.

Bloomberg reports that ongoing work on iOS 18 has resulted in a “larger-than-usual number of features slated for iOS 19” being pushed back to spring 2026. This is primarily because Apple’s engineers are still focused on iOS 18 tasks instead of transitioning to the next operating system.

This means that iOS 19 could lack several key features upon its launch in September. Any missing features may gradually be added over the following months in the form of updates like iOS 19.1, iOS 19.2, iOS 19.3, and iOS 19.4.
