On Monday, Apple issued the initial betas for iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 to users, just days after the public rollout of iOS 18.2. There isn’t much to note regarding new functionalities in these betas, and unfortunately for users of Mac and iPad, the redesigned Mail app is still absent from iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3.

The new Mail app is not yet available on Mac and iPad

With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple unveiled a revamped Mail app, which had been previewed back in June during WWDC 2024. This new Mail app features a refreshed design and intelligent categorization, sorting your inbox into sections like Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. It also enhances visibility of the sender for each email. However, this updated app is exclusively available for iPhone users.

While Apple hasn’t confirmed when the new Mail app will be available for iPad and Mac, promotional visuals from the M4 Macs launched in October displayed the redesigned Mail app in macOS, hinting at an eventual update for these devices.

Unfortunately, the iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 betas released today do not include the updated Mail app. At least in the first beta, the Mail application retains its original appearance on both iPad and Mac. As this is just the initial beta, changes may still be forthcoming before the official launch, but it seems likely that the new Mail app might debut on iPad and Mac with iPadOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4, anticipated around April 2025.

This isn’t the first instance of Apple segmenting the release of new features across devices. For example, the Genmoji feature, allowing users to create custom emojis, was introduced for iPhone and iPad users with iOS 18.2 but wasn’t rolled out for Mac until now with macOS 15.3 beta 1.

Additionally, some users have voiced their dissatisfaction with the new Mail app, particularly the new categorization feature (fortunately, there’s an option to revert to the previous design), which may leave them relieved that they don’t have to encounter the same problems on other devices.

The public release of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 is anticipated to occur sometime between January and February.
