Messages via satellite
Building on Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance via satellite, Apple introduced Messages via satellite with iOS 18, enabling users to communicate with family and friends even without WiFi or cellular service.
This feature proved life-saving shortly after its launch during Hurricane Helene. When in such situations, iPhone 14 or later models will prompt users in the Messages app to connect to a satellite for messaging.

Crash Detection
This feature is automatically activated on the iPhone 14, 15, and 16 (as well as Apple Watch 8 and newer). However, you can verify it’s enabled by navigating to Settings > Emergency SOS > Crash Detection.
If a serious car accident is detected, “your iPhone or Apple Watch sounds an alarm and displays an alert.” If you do not respond within 20 seconds, your device will automatically contact emergency services. Note that this requires a WiFi or cellular connection to function.

Safety Check
