This fall’s much-anticipated iPhone 17 Air model has generated significant buzz. However, insights from a newly released survey involving 3,500 current iPhone users suggest that Apple may face more challenges in selling this device than expected.
Survey on iPhone 16e Reveals Key Insights Relating to iPhone 17 Air Hurdles
SellCell, known for device resale, has just shared findings from a survey that focused on the iPhone 16e.
While the insights regarding the 16e are intriguing, what caught my attention more were the implications these responses might have for the upcoming iPhone 17 Air this fall.
For instance, just 7.3% of participants who own an iPhone 15 or older indicated they intend to upgrade to the iPhone 16e, leaving a staggering 92.7% opting out of that choice.
What drives this decision? The top two reasons provided were:
- Absence of multiple rear cameras (52.6%)
- Desire for a higher-end model as they “prefer the best Apple has to offer” (34%)
Respondents had the option to select three answers each, and the predominant concerns highlighted are relevant not only for the iPhone 16e but, critically, for the iPhone 17 Air as well.
It’s important to note that if these users were questioned about the iPhone 17 Air, their opinions might shift.
Personally, though I would hesitate to give up my iPhone’s additional cameras for the 16e, I am seriously contemplating that concession for the 17 Air.
Ultimately, the survey indicates that Apple will need to address several issues with its ultra-thin model. The lack of extra rear cameras, beyond the primary sensor, coupled with the fact that it won’t be “the best the Apple range has to offer,” pose challenges.
Is this a significant concern for Apple? Perhaps not, as the company likely prefers consumers to gravitate toward the more premium iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models anyway.
Nonetheless, the data gathered is valuable, shedding light on what prospective iPhone upgraders prioritize.
