IRS Issues Warning About Text Scam Aimed at Stimulus Check Recipients – News/Talk KRMS

Be cautious if you receive a particular text that is likely a scam.

If you receive a message stating that you are entitled to a $1,400 stimulus check from what appears to be the IRS, refrain from clicking on any links.

This message is almost certainly a scam, as the federal agency does not send out such communications.

According to the Better Business Bureau, fraudsters are impersonating the IRS to deceive taxpayers into providing personal information by sending fake alerts about their eligibility for additional funds.

These misleading texts may seem credible, as they reference recent news events.

The IRS announced in late December that it would be distributing $2.4 million in total to 1 million individuals who did not receive all their federal stimulus checks during the pandemic.
