‘Throw it at the wall. See if it sticks.’
Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis is dissenting from the Donald Trump administration regarding a potential rebate check proposed by the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE).
In a discussion on CNBC, Patronis expressed that the savings from DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts should focus on reducing U.S. debt instead.
“If it’s a $5,000 check, I experience some concern,” Patronis remarked. “I would much prefer to see debt being decreased. I would also like to see the tax cuts extended.”
The $5,000 figure was suggested by DOGE advocate Elon Musk on Twitter, and it appeared to be endorsed by Trump on Wednesday, who said he was enthusiastic about it.
“There’s even a proposal under consideration where we allocate 20% of the DOGE savings to American citizens, and 20% towards debt repayment, because the figures are astounding,” Trump stated in Miami Beach.
Patronis, who is Trump’s favored candidate in a Special Election for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, minimized the significance of the President’s conceptual support for the plan.
“The $5,000 checks, again, I think that’s Trump being Trump, you know? Let’s throw it at the wall, see if it sticks. Does it ignite some enthusiasm?”
A host used the term “poop” to clarify Patronis’ pronoun reference right afterward.
