Kino 1.2 Introduces Camera Control Features, Enhanced Grade Preset Sorting, and Additional Updates

The Halide team has rolled out a new version of their video capture app, Kino. The 1.2 update brings support for Camera Control on the iPhone 16, high frame rate capabilities optimized for the iPhone 16 Pro, and a fresh app icon inspired by film reels instead of HAL 9000. Additionally, users can now organize Grade presets, a feature that many have requested.

To start, check out the new Kino icon, designed to align with the iOS 18 color scheme:

I must mention that Kino has traded out HAL 9000 for a design reminiscent of a Galactic Empire TIE Fighter. You’ll see it, just admit it. Now, let’s return our focus to the topic at hand.

Here are some noteworthy new features in Kino 1.2:

  • Capture high frame rates up to 120 fps, including graded footage, along with 4K 120 fps support exclusive to iPhone 16 Pro.
  • Camera Control now includes adjustments for exposure, focus selection, and grade switching.
  • An optional Camera Control lock is available, which prevents accidental inputs; a feature introduced by Halide.
  • Grade sorting is extended to Camera Control access.
  • The app is now localized in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

Kino 1.2 is available as a free update for current users. For those new to the app, it remains a one-time purchase of $9.99 — no subscriptions, ads, or tracking involved. You can download it from the App Store.
